First observation of $^{19}$Na states by inelastic scattering

Résumé

Low-energy states of the 19Na proton-drip nucleus have been investigated by resonant elastic and inelastic scattering in inverse kinematics at the RIB facility at Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. We have used a 66 MeV 18Ne beam and a proton-rich (CH2)n target. Recoil protons were detected at forward angles by using a ¢E-E system, the so-called CD-PAD detector. The resonant elastic scattering technique have already been applied to study the 19Na nucleus. In this experiment, we have mostly concentrated on the 18Ne+p inelastic scattering. The energy spectra from inelastic protons, which leave the 18Ne nucleus in its first excited state at 1.887 MeV, exhibit the level structure of 19Ne in the excitation energy region from 2.5 up to 3.5 MeV. In this talk, absolute elastic and inelastic 18Ne+p cross sections will be presented and the analysis of the 19Ne levelproperties, performed in the framework of the R-matrix model, will be discussed
